Grand Erie's Board of Trustees meets regularly and is supported by several dedicated committees. 

In keeping with Ministry of Education policy, meetings of the Board of Trustees and many committee meetings are open to the public, except for in-camera sessions held to discuss confidential personnel, financial or other matters. Grand Erie’s cornerstone by-law – General Working By-Law GB1 – lays out the fundamental rules that govern how the Board of Trustees as a whole operates.

Governance policies, such as the Trustee Code of Conduct, outline our expectations for the work of the trustees. We also have a number of policies, procedures and protocols to help guide Grand Erie’s day-to-day activities and special situations.

Trustees set education policy for Grand Erie, working together to reflect the needs and aspirations of the communities we serve.

The Board of Trustees includes school board trustees chosen by voters in municipal elections, trustees appointed to represent the interests of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory students and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation students, and student trustees who participate in discussions but don’t vote on board matters.

Grand Erie’s director of education and superintendents are senior staff members in leadership roles.

The director works closely with the Board of Trustees to lead Grand Erie’s school system. Superintendents’ activities and responsibilities are wide-ranging and varied, including supervising schools and board-wide programs, and serving on various committees.

Grand Erie publishes Learning and Operating Plans, Education Services Agreement Progress Reports, annual budgets, and other reviews, strategies, and reports.

Learning and Operating Plans set educational goals for Grand Erie and report on our progress toward meeting those goals. Education Services Agreement Progress Reports look at the progress of students from Mississaugas of the Credit River First Nation and from Six Nations, as well as the team whose work emerges from each Education Services Agreement.
