The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1–8: The Arts, 2009 identifies the expectations for each grade and describes the knowledge and skills that students are expected to acquire, demonstrate, and apply in their class work and investigations, on tests, and in various other activities on which their achievement is assessed and evaluated. (pg 11) The expectations in the arts curriculum are organized into four strands – Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Arts. This document replaces The Ontario Curriculum, French as a Second Language: Core French, Grades 4-8, 1998 and The Ontario Curriculum, French as a Second Language: Extended French, Grades 4-8; French Immersion, Grades 1-8, 2001. Beginning in September 2014, all elementary French as a second language (FSL) programs will be based on the expectations outlined in this document (pg. 3)

The primary goal of the three French as a second language programs in Ontario is to increase, within realistic and well-defined parameters, a student’s ability to communicate in French. This document replaces The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1–8: Health and Physical Education, Interim Edition, re-issued in 2018. Beginning in September 2019, all health and physical education programs for Grades 1 to 8 will be based on the expectations outlined in this document. (pg 3)

The 2019 health and physical education curriculum includes updated expectations in a number of areas, including mental health. Opportunities to learn about mental health are enhanced through the inclusion of new expectations on mental health literacy; new expectations on social-emotional learning skills, to be taught in connection with all parts of the curriculum; and enhanced connections to mental health within existing curriculum expectations. The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1-8: Mathematics, 2020 focuses on fundamental mathematics concepts and skills, as well as on making connections between related math concepts, between mathematics and other disciplines, and between mathematics and everyday life. It also supports new learning about mathematical modelling, coding, and financial literacy, and integrates mathematics learning with learning in other STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects. As well, this curriculum is designed to help students build confidence in approaching mathematics and acquire a positive attitude towards mathematics, cope with stress and anxiety, persevere and learn from their mistakes, work collaboratively with others towards a shared goal, value deep thinking and making connections, and become capable and confident math learners. The Kindergarten program is a child-centred, developmentally appropriate, integrated program of learning for four- and five-year-old children. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years, and to do so in a safe and caring, play-based environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of all children.
