Vision Assessments

Children do not always know when they are not seeing as clearly or as well as they should. The only way to be sure that your child has normal vision and good eye health wis to have an examination with an optometrist.

In Ontario, students up to the age of 19 can get one comprehensive eye exam each year that is covered by OHIP. If follow-ups are necessary, those visits are also covered. Undetected and untreated vision problems often cause reading difficulties and can cause the same signs and symptoms that are commonly attributed to issues such as ADHD, dyslexia, and speech problems.

Hearing Assessments

Hearing plays an important role in communication. Hearing sounds and words helps children learn to talk and understand language. A child with hearing loss misses out on these sounds, which may cause problems with speaking, reading, school success, and social skills. It is important to have your child’s hearing tested.

An audiologist can test your child’s hearing. If there is hearing loss, they can talk to you about treatment options, which may include medical treatment, hearing assistive devices, or speech and language therapy. It is best to call your preferred clinic and inquire as to whether services are covered by OHIP, before booking an appointment.
