The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessments measure how well individual students have met provincial expectations in the Ontario Curriculum.

We also look at aggregate results for Grand Erie’s students to better understand how to meet their educational needs. For more information on the EQAO and assessment practices, visit the EQAO website.

Students in Grades 1–8 receive three report cards during the school year: a progress report card in November, and provincial report cards in February and June. Our secondary schools operate on a semester model, and we send report cards home with secondary school students twice per semester.

Grand Erie offers three French language programs at the secondary level: Core French, Extended French and French Immersion.

Learning a second language helps students develop cognitive abilities and communications skills, while opening up future opportunities. All of Grand Erie’s French language programs focus on building skills in oral communication (listening and speaking), reading and writing.

For students, the choice between French language programs at the secondary level is usually guided by the accumulated hours of instruction in French by the end of Grade 8. 

Students in Grade 12 can also take an exam for the Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF), an internationally recognized certification of proficiency in French. 

Grand Erie classrooms include many students from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, alongside other Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people. 

Our aim is always to provide an enriching educational experience that acknowledges and respects the Indigenous communities represented in our schools. Grand Erie is dedicated to providing culturally responsive services and programs that improve the school experience and help all our Indigenous students succeed. We also work to develop strong partnerships with Indigenous families, communities and organizations.

Students should never have to worry about safety – as educators and parents, that’s our responsibility. 

A school environment that’s safe, fostering mutual respect and inclusiveness, is the starting point for learning and growth. Everyone in our schools, especially students, should feel safe and accepted. To help students stay safe outside of our walls, we also work to empower them with tools they can use to understand and counter risks they may encounter online or in the community.

Educators today recognize that mental health is an important dimension of overall well-being for students. At Grand Erie schools, we cultivate a climate of tolerance, mutual support, and respect for all students and staff members.

Counseling, wellness programs, and a wide range of extracurricular activities that promote healthy lifestyles are among the ways we support mental and physical health for students and prepare them to be compassionate and resilient members of society. We’re always working to improve the school environment, so students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. And when a member of our school community is struggling, we encourage open communication, we listen carefully, and we provide appropriate support.

Special Education starts from the knowledge that all students can succeed in school, and success looks different for everyone. 

We’re committed to providing every student in our schools with the opportunities they need to reach their potential. Bringing parents, classroom teachers, and specialized educators together as a team, we can develop teaching strategies and classroom accommodations to suit students with special needs.

Every school in Grand Erie has its own Welcome Centre. True to its name, the Welcome Centre is where all new multilingual language learners and First Nation, Métis, and Inuit students – and their families – are welcomed into the Grand Erie community.
