Elgin Ave Public School Renaming

New School Community, New Name!

Education in Simcoe is evolving. To better meet the needs of the community, renovations to Elgin Ave Public School will transform the space into a vibrant hub, adding an additional 17,000 square feet and upgrading the existing footprint of the school.  Work is underway with an anticipated welcome-back date of March 2026.

Our newly renovated school is more than just bricks and beams… we’re building a new school community and need your ideas for what to name it!  The renovation will bring together learners from West Lynn Public School and Elgin Avenue Public School, so let’s write our next chapter with a name that reflects who we are.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it: help Grand Erie’s revamped Simcoe elementary school honour the past while embracing a bright future. Submit your best ideas for a new school name!

Here’s a few things to keep in mind:

Our policy governing school naming offers considerations that may apply in naming a school including local geography, streets, historical names or events, or an individual with an outstanding and enduring contribution to the Grand Erie educational community. Names should also reflect Grand Erie’s mission to build a culture of learning, well-being and belonging to inspire each student.

How will the naming process work?

Public input through the form below will be received until May 24, 2025. The top-10 submissions, based on a review by the administration of the school, will be presented to the School Naming committee. The committee will then review the submissions and seek input from staff, students, community members and stakeholder groups.

Finally, the committee will bring the top recommendation to the Board of Trustees this spring for the official selection.
