Grand Erie DSB has schools in the areas of Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk and the City of Brantford.

Availability

Our school facilities are available for community use from September through June.

  • Monday to Friday from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
  • Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 am - 10:00 pm.

A variety of school facilities are available for rent including gymnasiums, secondary classrooms, cafeterias, auditoriums, libraries and sports fields.

Our schools are not available due to cleaning/maintenance requirements during:

  • Christmas break
  • March break
  • Professional Activity days
  • Statutory Holidays

Permits are cancelled when schools have been closed during the day due to inclement weather or for any other reason beyond the control of the school board.


Rental Activities

School facilities can be rented for a wide range of community based activities and programs that help to build strong and healthy communities such as; homework help programs, reading clubs, new parent classes, sports and recreation, health & wellness programs, Scout/Guide/Cadet club meetings, community theatre etc.


Prohibited Activities

School facilities shall not be used in any manner contrary to the Ministry of Education or Grand Erie District School Board’s Rules and Regulations.

Schools may not be rented for activities that may damage facilities such as, but not limited to:

  • Alpine Skiing
  • Boxing
  • Bouncy Castles
  • Bubble Soccer
  • Climbing Walls
  • Contact Hockey
  • Contact Martial Arts
  • Cycling
  • Dunk Tanks
  • Fireworks (unless under the direction of a Fireworks Supervisor)
  • Gymnastics
  • Horse Related
  • Kickboxing
  • Lacrosse (unless non-contact pickup)
  • Minor Hockey (18 & under) (unless non-contact pickup)
  • Rugby
  • Skateboarding/Skateboard Parks
  • Snowboarding
  • Tackle Football

Schools may not be used for sleeping accommodation except in unusual circumstances and contingent upon the necessary approvals.


Priority of Use

The primary use of school facilities, building and grounds, is for the delivery of education to students. School day activities, extra-curricular activities and parent involvement activities organized or administered by the school/board have priority of use of space during and after regular school hours.

Bookings are based on the following Priority:

  • Grand Erie DSB
  • Historical Groups
  • Municipal Direct Programs governed through Joint Use of Facilities Agreements
  • Affiliated Groups identified through Joint Use of Facilities Agreements
  • Other

When submitting the Application for Community Use of Schools, the Applicant must select the correct permit type. The following permit types are defined in order to understand the priority of bookings and fee structure


JUFA & Affiliates - Type 1
Non-profit, volunteer organization approved for affiliation by a municipal Recreation Authority for the purpose of making recreational and/or cultural programs available to all residents of the local community. This does not include tournament events.
Non-Profit Youth and Other - Type 1-A
Not for profit youth groups or groups that are donating to the GEDSB in an amount that is greater than the fee charged for the use of the facility. This also includes School Alumni sanctioned by the school administrator, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and other Non-Profit Youth groups not affiliated with a Municipality. Not-for-Profit Groups will be required to show proof of status or provide an affidavit letter indicating that the organization is a not for profit organization.
Non-Profit, Non-Youth - Type 1-B
Groups that are providing a community services but are adult focused. Examples are Red Cross, St. John’s Ambulance, Health Units and short-term use by municipal emergency services.
Non-Profit (Other) - Type 2
Fundraising Events, Church Group meetings, Service Club meetings, Amateur Drama Clubs, Non-Affiliated Community Groups, Local Cultural Groups, Other Educational Groups i.e. Colleges and Universities, Tournaments, Union/Federation events, School Alumni Activities NOT sanctioned by school administrator and Non-Affiliated Adult Recreation.
Commercial/Private User - Type 3
Commercial enterprises, professional theatre groups, Church Services, Private individuals, Political Groups, Private Fitness, Dance Instructional Groups and Film Production Companies.
GEDSB/School Use - Type 4
Student and staff events sanctioned by the school administrator, School Clubs and School Council Meetings, Administrative or other staff meetings and sports teams.
Reciprocal Group - Permit Type 6
Non-Profit Childcare, Early ON Child and Family Programs and Before and After School Children’s Recreation Providers (not including tournaments or special events).
