Since opening its doors in November 2024, the Innovation Hub @ Grand Erie has sparked curiosity in every corner of the Grand Erie District School Board.

Most recently, Grand Erie collaborated with Let's Talk Science and McMaster University in events with over 250 student attendees seeking hands-on learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM). At the Hub, located in North Park Collegiate and Vocational School in Brantford, learners in Grades 7 to 12 immerse themselves in an ecosystem of imagination.

Recent activities included Build Your Own Bacteria, Elephant Toothpaste, Food Web Jenga, STEAM Cup Challenge and Awesome Algorithms.

STEAM Teacher Consultant, Miriam Lapeare, is one of the Innovation Hub's driving forces. Together with her powerhouse team of leaders, they worked diligently to bring the space to life and plan frequent events focusing on essential skills in problem-solving, communication, creativity, and of course, teamwork.

"Our first outreach collaborations with Let's Talk Science and McMaster University were such fantastic experiences for fun and discovery," said Lapeare. "We're thrilled to have had such a great turnout, showing strong community interest in STEAM. We look forward to future events that inspire our young innovators."

This space pushes the envelope of possibility and prepares students for a rapidly evolving world.

"We commend all staff for their commitment to enriching the lives of learners, and our students for following their passion and letting inspiration lead the way," said JoAnna Roberto, Director of Education.

In just a few short months, the Innovation Hub has inspired hundreds of learners — and it's just getting started. Keep an eye on this webpage for upcoming opportunities.
