About the program

The following international language classes are being offered in the 2023-24 school year.

Students must be currently attending a public or private  school to enroll in either of the secondary or elementary classes of the Languages below. 

Once students submit a registration form to Carolyn Kelley, Secretary, please attend on the following scheduled day of the class. 

The registration process will be completed by Grand Erie Learning Alternatives. GELA

will inform your children's teachers of their expected attendance once the registration is received.


Punjabi Secondary Credit Class (Grades 9 - 12)

  • Students will earn a secondary school credit (Saturday mornings - 3 hours, Walter Gretzky School, Brantford)
  • Regular classes begin Saturday, Sept. 16, 2024.

Punjabi Elementary (JK - Grade 8)

  • Open to grades JK to Grade 8 elementary students currently registered in a public or private school.
  • Regular classes begin Saturday, Sept. 16, 2024, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
    Saturday mornings - 2.5 hours at Walter Gretzky School, Brantford.

Arabic Elementary - CLASSES ARE FULL

  • Open to Grades JK to Grade 8 elementary students currently registered in a public or private school.
    Saturday mornings - 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Grand Erie Learning Alternatives, 365 Rawdon Street, Brantford.

Polish Elementary (Grades 1-8)

  • Open to Grades 1 - 8 elementary students currently registered in a public or private school.
    Monday evenings - 2.5 hours at Polish Alliance Hall, Brantford.

Mandarin Elementary (JK - Grade 8)

  • Open to Grades JK to Grade 8 elementary students currently registered in a public or private school.
  • Either Saturday mornings or Sunday mornings - 2 hours - Offered in-class Beginner to Grade 3; Online for grades 4 to 8.

Hindi Elementary (JK to Grade 8)

  • Open to Grades JK to Grade 8 elementary students currently registered in a public or private school.

International Languages Information

Program Information

  • Offers children the opportunity to develop and/or maintain the ability to speak, listen, read and write a new language, or in the language of their heritage.
  • Enhances students’ connection with their heritage.
  • Improves communication skills in their language of choice.
  • Strengthens cognitive development through the knowledge of an additional language.
  • Provides opportunities to learn and experience another culture.

Important Notes

  • Elementary language program for students attending school, from Junior Kindergarten to 8 in September 2023.
  • Students MUST be 4 years of age by December, 2023 to begin attending in September, 2023. 
  • Credit Classes for those entering grade 9 to 12 in September 2023.
  • Students with all levels of language proficiency are welcome.
  • Students need to be committed to learning and improving their skills. Good attitude, behaviour and consistent engagement are expected of every student.
